What Counts as an AC Emergency
Not every odd noise is an emergency, but these usually are: no cooling at all with indoor temperatures climbing, water actively leaking from the air handler into a closet, ceiling or living space, burning smells or sparking at the outdoor disconnect, a system that will not shut off and is icing heavily, or a household with infants, elderly family members or medical needs and no safe place to cool down. We also treat post-storm failures seriously when power is back but the unit will not run. If you are unsure, call. A short phone triage costs nothing and tells you whether to shut the system off until we arrive.

After a Storm or Power Outage
Hurricanes and summer storms knock out power, throw debris into condensers and send surges through contactors and circuit boards. When power returns, do not immediately expect normal cooling. We check the breaker and disconnect, look for surge damage, clear debris from the outdoor coil and fan, and verify the system is safe to run before we chase comfort issues. Drain lines often clog right when humidity spikes after a storm, so we check overflow and water damage as part of the emergency visit. Temporary cooling restoration comes first when the house is unsafe; a full repair quote follows once we know what failed.

What to Do Before We Arrive
1. Check the thermostat batteries and settings (cool mode, setpoint below room temperature).
2. Check the air filter; a completely blocked filter can freeze the coil.
3. Look at the breaker and the outdoor disconnect. If a breaker has tripped more than once, leave it off and wait for us.
4. If water is overflowing, turn the system off at the thermostat or breaker to limit damage, and move belongings out of the wet area.
5. Note any recent lightning, outages or odd sounds so we can start diagnosis faster.
6. Keep pets secured and attic or closet access clear if that is where the air handler sits.

What Exactly Gets Done
- Phone triage
- Power, breaker and surge-damage check after outages
- Drain overflow and water damage check
- Temporary fixes to restore cooling, then a full repair quote
- Written price before non-emergency follow-up work

Emergency AC FAQs
Is my AC safe to run after a power outage?
Not always. Surges can damage contactors, capacitors and control boards. Debris can jam the outdoor fan. If the breaker trips, you smell burning, or the outdoor unit makes grinding noises, leave it off and call us. If everything looks and sounds normal but cooling is weak, we still recommend a check after a major storm.

Do you work weekends?
Yes. We are available all day, every day, including weekends, with emergency after-hours service for true no-cooling and water-leak calls.

How fast can you get here?
Response time depends on weather, call volume and your location in the Tampa Bay area. When you call (813) 647-6010 we give you an honest window, not a promise we cannot keep. Riverview, Brandon, Apollo Beach, Valrico and Tampa are our core run.

What if the repair has to wait on a part?
We focus first on restoring safe cooling when we can: float-switch resets after a drain clear, a capacitor swap we stock, or temporary measures while a larger part is ordered. You get a clear explanation of what is temporary versus permanent and a written price for the full repair.

Should I repair or replace after a major failure?
If the system is older, leaking refrigerant at the coil or needing repeated emergency visits, replacement may cost less over the next few years than stacking repairs. We will say so plainly. Planned replacements are covered on /ac-replacement-tampa-fl; tonight’s job is getting the house cool and dry again.
